This newest series of Isa's paintings was first inspired by the eruption of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, the wildfires raging across western North America, the Amazon, Australia, and Siberia, as well as American political madness, continuing systemic racism, and the global rise of unprecedented social and environmental justice movements.
Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of fire and transformation. She embodies the sacred role of destruction on the wheel of life; disintegration and death are always followed by rebirth and new growth.
Pele is a role model for these times. She is a strength we need now and always: unapologetic self-respect, naked honesty, unflinching integrity, and the courage to deeply let go and fiercely stand up.
